What is clear background?
This tool uses an AI segmentation model to separate the subject from the background. Unlike most "free" removers, the model runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — the image never leaves your device.
The first run downloads the model (~a few dozen MB) and caches it. After that, removal runs locally with no server round-trips.
How to clear background
- Drop or click to choose a photo.
- Click Remove background (first run downloads the on-device model).
- Preview on a transparency checkerboard, compare, and download a transparent PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The AI model runs on your device using WebAssembly. Your photo is processed locally and never sent anywhere.
Why does the first run take a while?
The segmentation model is downloaded once and cached by your browser. Later runs are faster.
How accurate is it?
It uses the ISNet segmentation model and works well on clear subjects (people, products). Busy or low-contrast scenes may need manual cleanup.
